At Gimnasio del Norte, we believe that physical education and sports are key activities for the overall development of our students, so the school places great emphasis on the development of these disciplines. From the age of three, students start with the development of basic motor patterns of movement through a structured program whose pillars are the following components: identity and interaction, composition of movements, games, challenge and adventure, physical activity and health, besides sports. These abilities extend to MYP and DP taking into account the needs and characteristics of the evolutionary development of the students.
Sport at Gimnasio del Norte becomes into an important tool that allows us to truly live our motto "Learning to Live" and therefore our philosophy and principles through the community profile Learner, since this guarantees a habit of physical exercise, which helps us to educate our students with character, discipline, independence and health both physically and emotionally.
One of the fundamental reasons for offering sports in the school is to provide the opportunity for all students to work in team sports because we know that social spaces offered in these practices are the perfect setting for experiencing profile attributes, attitudes and skills, which are fundamental for the effective development of our curriculum.
High school students have the opportunity to belong to one of the sports teams. Therefore, the Department of Physical Education and Sports offers training to students in the afternoons on Tuesdays and Thursdays, at no cost, in the following practices: basketball, soccer and volleyball, all in both male category and female.
Gimnasio del Norte is a pioneer and leads numerous sporting events with schools who are members of the Andean Association of Schools of International Baccalaureate (AACBI), conducting two annual tournaments, one in a single category where participating schools compete for a big trophy on the first half of the year, and another category of children on the second half.
