Primary Years Programme
With this program, the institution aims to educate future generations to assume leadership roles in the world in which they live, where they are taught to think for themselves and react to real life situations. It is at this time of children’s lives when learning is meaningful, and the PYP programme accompanies them to inquire about their interests, making them responsible for their own learning, and teaching them to research and construct knowledge in interaction with others. With this type of experience children of primary school at Gimnasio del Norte act accordingly and apply their learning in order to solve various problems, turning this process into something personal and meaningful.
The Primary Years Programme prepares students to actively participate in a journey of discovery and lifelong learning. It focuses on the development of the child and their ability to inquire, both in the classroom and in the world around him. PYP students have developed along their way through the programme, love and enthusiasm for learning and become lifelong learners in order to respond to the challenges that they face in the 21st century, given that knowledge is constantly evolving and as close to our lives as possible, it is the change itself and the ability to adapt to it.
We work on meaningful concepts about relevant and consistent learning experiences, which allow students to develop skills and challenge ways of thinking in today's society. We comply with the national standards set by Colombian Ministry of Education and those ones given by the IBO through a programme of inquiry that generates authentic connections in order to build knowledge through questions generated by a learning community which is comprised by students and teachers.
In order to prepare our students for the other two programs (MYP and Diploma) which are offered by our school, it is performed the "Exhibition", a culminating experience in which they have the opportunity to demonstrate their comprehension skills and the ability to take meaningful action in the world around them. In this way, they can visualize themselves as global citizens, able to apply all the essential elements of the programme and demonstrate how they have developed the learning profile of the community.
