They are in a crucial stage of their personal, social, physical and intellectual life characterized by uncertainty and questioning. The Middle Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate (IB) is designed to help them find a sense of belonging in the world around them, and instill in them a positive attitude towards learning.
Gimnasio del Norte, as an active member of the IB and taking into account the declaration of Principles of the Organization aims to develop inquiring students, capable of contributing to a better world and as stated in the motto of the school, we make sure our students "Learn to live ".
What is the Middle Years?
The programme consists of eight subject groups integrated through five areas of interaction that provide a framework for disciplinary and interdisciplinary learning.
The evaluation is based on criteria, which means that the performance of students, regardless of school where they study, is measured against the same assessment criteria for each subject group worldwide. To ensure that the same standards are applied worldwide, these internal assessments are verified externally by IB examiners (through processes called moderation and monitoring of assessment)..
At the end of the process of the program, students in Year 5 of MYP (high school freshman) must develop a research work called the Personal Project, which consists of an individual research opportunity through which each student explores and elaborates on their interests in any discipline.
